To err is human

Talk about a major screw-up!

I'm glad I'm not the guy who did this:

James Earl Jones Civil Rights Plaque Reads 'James Earl Ray' in Awkward Gaffe

'Awkward' heh. Talk about understatements!

A brief clarification

More musical notes (sorry!): still loving "How You Remind Me" from Nickelback. Doesn't get played enough on the station I listen to.

Still think "Superman" by Five For Fighting is an annoying exercise in self-indulgence.

"It ain't easy to be me."

No shit, sherlock. Join the club.

I have a high tolerance for whiny mope rock (I'm a huge Pearl Jam *and* Smiths fan *g*), but that line just kills any good feelings I might have had about that song.

I've got poppyseeds and cream cheese all over my keyboard.

Also, a clarification... the other day I was talking about the collective unconscious and its appearance in fandom, and I just wanted to say I wasn't referring to "blog echo" or whatever the term for it is.

Yes, there are things that get mentioned in one widely-read LiveJournal [and how sad am I that I can't comfortably use the abbreviation LJ? God, that's sad] or blog and then get discussed in other diaries etc. and there's sort of a meta-debate that's completely off-list and possibly cross-fandom.

And that's really cool.

But not what I was talking about.

I'm talking about a trend appearing, seemingly sui generis in a fandom - like two incest stories being posted at the same time, or something of that nature, where the authors weren't planning it, nor was there any possiblity of plagiarism, etc.

Hmm...

That's all, I think.

100,000 Airplanes and other news [spoilers]

Big smoochy thank yous to everyone who answered my lyrics questions.

I was right about Fame, don't even know why I know the song from Pippin, and no wonder I couldn't find the "Magic Power" song from Triumph. I kept looking for it from Argent.

I loved that song as a young'un.

So, 100,000 Airplanes.

Sam-o-rama.

"Is the reason you didn't get married because her name would have been Lisa Sherbourne-Seaborne?"

Love CJ. Love her!

CJ: "Get on the couch, I'll do you right now."

Sam: "Okay."

CJ: "I was talking about Carol."

Sam: "That thing about Carol... can I just stay in the corner and watch?"

Hee!

Decent ep. Joey was good. Love the metatextual "Larry and Ed" moments. "Which one's Larry and which one's Ed?" "Doesn't matter."

But don't you dare try to convince me that Josh has more chemistry with annoying Amy than with Donna.

The way they hugged at the end - far more sparky than anything with Amy.

Toby: "I need more pie."

POTUS is all yummy when he takes command. "I'm the Commander in Chief. Now sit your asses down and talk to me like I'm not an oncologist."

In other news, updated In Their Own Words at Unfit for Society - this week features MoJo and Jori of West Wing fame.

Also got the latest story in the Unspoken Round Robin up at The Muse's Fool. The story is called "A Sure Thing" and it's by the lovely Crystal Claire.

Here endeth the shameless plugging.

I think I'm going to answer a wee bit of email, and then go to bed.

If I haven't answered your email yet, well, I'm about a week behind, which is good. Except in Smallville, where I'm about 3 weeks behind. Sigh.

Lyrics questions

Okay, maybe someone out there can help me.

Song lyrics I can't identify, and it's been driving me crazy.

Please email me if you know the titles or artists, or even better, both. *g*

"I'm young now, I'm wild now, I want to be free / I've got the magic power of the music in me"

"We've got magic to do, just for you / we've got miracle plays to play / parts to perform / hearts to warm / kings and things to do"

And also, is there a song using the words from the I Sing the Body Electric portion of Leaves of Grass? 'Cause I can kinda hear it in my head, starting with "I sing the body electric" but that's all I've got. Possibly from the movie "Fame"?

I guess today is all about music.

And I'm sure I'll be checking in later after West Wing. Sam gets a whole ep, and Josh is still on about that annoying Amy.

Lo-ser. Say it with me now, people.

And seriously, if you can identify any of those three songs, e me!

cleaning binge

It's official. I'm the biggest loser online. I am addicted to this. I just haven't got a thought I don't want to share.

I'm on a cleaning binge here at work. Just straightened out the supply closet.

Why does this never hit at home, at, say, 10 am on a Saturday, when I could actually do something useful and clean my apt.? I'm never going to move if I don't do some cleaning, and I *need* to move.

Egads, they're playing Freebird. I really have to try and tune K-Rock in sometime, because Q-104 is just a little too classic rock, even for me.

Musical meanderings

You know, it's really hard to make it through the day when all your energy goes into your morning commute.

Goddamn, you think they'd have bothered to announce that there was no E or V service, and that the F was running over the V line.

Even, on the radio I heard there was "police action" in Queens and the R and G were running express. Hello? Did anyone ever think that this would be a good time to mention how that affected the E, F, and V.

So yeah, another extra-long, extra-frustrating commute, but at least I mostly got to sit and veg with my walkman.

Listening to the CD I made Jen. It's quite good, though I guess I need to buy a real CD-burning program so I can do fades and segues instead of having all that blank space. I hate silence - I'm all about the songs flowing into each other when I make a mix tape.

And that's the other thing - I work at the order, to make it flow and segue and sometimes even to counterpoint or make little jokes with titles or tunes or something, and now, with CDs, that's all out the window.

You can hit shuffle or program and just listen in any order you please.

Not sure I like that.

Of course, that might get me off my lazy ass and into some new segues that I haven't used before, instead of the same old, same old I've come to rely on [Hey Jealousy into Alive, Sick of Myself and If I Can't Change Your Mind, It Could Be Sweet into Overfire into Never an Easy Way into Stroke of Luck, etc.].

I was listening to the Rod Stewart/Jeff Beck version of People Get Ready and *damn* I love that guitar riff... I'm not usually one to notice the riffs; I'm more likely to notice drumming or basslines, but damn...

It's like that little riff Johnny Marr does in Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now - best part of the damn song; or the sweeping, swirling guitars in Love Is Blindness.

On the radio right now - Break On Through - the Doors. Lurve it. Still amazed at the fact that they had no bassist, that what's his name did it all himself on keyboards... and why has his name completely slipped my mind? Ray Manzarek! That's it.

Whew. Was afraid I was having a senior moment, and I'm not old enough for that, dammit, even if I do keep finding new gray hairs. Waah!

Ooh, Tom Petty now, Woman in Love. I love Tom Petty, even if he does resemble a sun-bleached weasel, as I believe one of the Limbonians once described him.

And, as a special shout-out to my mom, who will never ever read this, how weird is it that I can use the word Limbonian in actual adult conversation and not mean the imaginary people I spoke to as a five-year-old? Hee!

More on last night's eppy - V-woman needs to get a new wardrobe. I don't care what kind of tight budget they're on - she shouldn't dress like a tacky, off the rack, colorblind fashion victim. Not if she's allegedly as rich and as smart as all that.

Let's just say the actress didn't really deliver the goods, which is fine by me.

So last night I had the first explicit WTC dream I've had in a while. It wasn't even really about the crashes so much as it was about the number 11 and what that means to New York and how it also looks like the Towers.

Weird.

Dreaming of numbers... I wonder what that means, if anything, beyond regular 9/11 anxiety, probably exacerbated by going down to Ground Zero Monday night.

I need to use more lotion on my hands.

Ooh, Streetfighting Man. *g*

"What can a poor boy do / 'cept to sing for a rock-n-roll band? On the streets of Londontown / there's just no place for a streetfightin' man."

*g*

HoYay Fever

Ravenclaws value intellect -- you like things which challenge your mind, whether it be math, art, history, or all of the above and more! You might be somewhat withdrawn, or your intellect might make you a bit mysterious to others.

Get Sorted!

Actually, this doesn't surprise me.

I'm not all destined for great things like Gryffindors.

I'm feeling somewhat better now, taking all hugs as they're offered.

Watched me some Slashville tonight.

That V-woman was bad, but I don't hate her. You know why? Because the opportunity for sex with her couldn't distract Lex from contemplating Clark.

So it's the HoYay forever, people. Lex's [ex-?]girlfriend obviously will have no sway over him, except in evilness. The lust is saved for Clarky-poo.

Chloe was cool tonight. And I didn't yawn through Lana's scenes, so... they need to pair her with Chloe more often. Not sexually - I didn't see slashy vibes, but they had nice friendshippy sparkage, like old Buffy-Willow type thing.

And, I'm almost done with the fight scene in Consumption.

I finish the fight, I can get back to the lovey-dovey character crapola we all know I prefer to write.

So, it's no longer Tuesday, technically, and things are looking up, sorta.

The painting is "Boreas" by John William Waterhouse. Again, not a muse, but I like her. She suits the color scheme.

The quote is from Sir Philip Sidney.
