2002-01-23 - 10:58 p.m. So Mommy and Daddy closed on the house today, and then they all had some big coffee klatch with Marg and Dom and the kids. Let's not get into my bitterness there. Couple things snagged from elsewhere: From Seema: 1. IF YOU COULD BUILD YOUR HOUSE ANYWHERE, WHERE WOULD IT BE? On St. John in the winter - a houseboat, maybe. And I want to live in an Upper West Side brownstone the rest of the year. 2. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE ARTICLE OF CLOTHING? Flannel shirts and jeans, or long flowy skirts with no stockings. 3. WHAT'S THE LAST CD THAT YOU BOUGHT? Everyday by DMB, for The Space Between 4. WHERE'S YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO BE? At home snuggled up in bed reading a book, playing on the laptop or just sleeping 5. WHERE'S YOUR LEAST FAVORITE PLACE TO BE? On the subway in 100 degree heat and no AC 6. WHAT'S MOST IMPORTANT, STRONG IN MIND OR STRONG IN BODY? Strong in mind 7. WHAT TIME DO YOU WAKE UP IN THE MORNING? Alarm goes off at 6:45 and then at 7 minute intervals til I get up [usually either 7:09 or 7:16] on workdays; anywhere from 11 am - 1 pm on weekends. Yeah, I like to sleep. *g* 9. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE TV SHOW? West Wing, Buffy, Angel, Sopranos, Alias 10. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE KITCHEN APPLIANCE? Kitchenaid mixer, baby 11. WHAT MAKES YOU LAUGH? Word play, stupid people, lots of things 13. WHAT MAKES YOU REALLY ANGRY? How long do you have? I'm an angry person, so it doesn't take much. I'm working on that. 14. IF YOU COULD PLAY ANY INSTRUMENT WHAT WOULD IT BE? Drums or piano. Bass would be cool, too. 15. FAVORITE RESTAURANT/CAFE/EATERY? Panzano in the Hotel Monaco in Denver 16. DO YOU BELIEVE IN AFTERLIFE? Yeah, sure. 17. FAVORITE CHILDREN'S BOOK? Goodnight Moon for the toddlers, The Teddy Bear Habit in the YA mode. 18. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SEASON? Summer 19. WHAT IS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE HOUSEHOLD CHORE? Cleaning or washing dishes. Scrubbing the bathtub. 20. IF YOU COULD HAVE ONE SUPER POWER, WHAT WOULD IT BE? Pyrokinesis - I wanna start fires with my mind, and be able to touch 'em without getting burned. Fire fire fire fire ... Ahem, where was I? 21. IF YOU HAD A TATTOO, WHAT WOULD IT BE? I have one - a biohazard symbol on my back. Contemplating a second - maybe earth-sun-moon, maybe Wolvie's claws. Dunno. 22. THE SONG YOU WISHED YOU HAD WRITTEN? Thunder Road 24. DO YOU PREFER CATS OR DOGS? Dogs. Cats are evil. 25. WHAT'S IN THE TRUNK OF YOUR CAR? No car 26. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE DAY? Saturday 27. USING ONLY ONE WORD DESCRIBE YOURSELF? Silly Anyone else? And also, as seen in Kate's and Annie's blogs, there's this 10 True Things thingy going around, so I'm considering jumping on the bandwagon, except I can't think of 10 interesting things to share. Hmm... 1. My father's family is from Castel Vetrano, provincia Trapani in Sicily. 2. I am a textbook Cancer, even though I don't believe in astrology 3. I graduated summa cum laude from Fordham University, College at Lincoln Center in May 1992 4. I had my appendix out when I was 5 and almost died from peritonitis 5. I am a paid diaryland user, so I could track the stats. I'm geeky enough to love the stats. 6. I am addicted to the internet. I'm okay with that. 7. I'm a selfish bastard who doesn't like most people. 8. I don't eat vegetables if I can help it, and I think Indian and Mexican food both smell so bad I can't even get near 'em to eat them. 9. I used to read LotR every summer from when I was 8 until I was 15. 10. I drink like a fish and used to worry about being an alcoholic. Since I've learned I can stop after one drink, I don't worry much anymore. Hmm... not exactly a stunning confessional, eh? So, the Xander/Willow and CLex portions of my triptych are done, and the L/R version is about half-done. I got stuck on a word to describe Logan in an analogy where Marie is a mermaid, and got online, and that was the end of that! Though I would like to finish it tonight. Imagine, three fics in one day. Okay, each is only about 1000 words, but still... that's pretty damn productive. After the first round of edits are done, I'll share, but right now I've seen too many typos to feel comfortable posting them anywhere, even here. Cheers, ~victoria [current mood: ] [current music: ] [random quote: ] ~*~ 2002-01-23 - 2:46 p.m. Proof that I watch too much television, or am pop-culture obsessed: Last night I had a dream that merged West Wing, X-Men and LotR. I was working at the White House, and there was some big financial thing with the deficit and payroll checks bouncing going on. The president was going to Camp David, and it was supposed to be a light week. I went out and ran into I guy I guess I knew. Then Sabretooth appeared on a motorcycle and this guy started muttering about how Gollum had sold us out to him, and then we were back in time and all teenagery and I was this guy's girlfriend and I was sitting in his lap as he told the story of how Gollum hadn't actually found the ring the way Gandalf said, but had stolen it from Sabretooth, who had been hunting her ever since. Yes, I said her. In my dream, Gollum was a she. A very tiny little woman who had an affinity for pink lacy dresses at one point, and who was Sabes's lover. Until she took the ring. But apparently, she didn't actually *mean* to steal it, it was just so pretty she thought he should have given it to her, as an engagement ring. So my guy - who may or may not have been Logan (they went toe-to-toe in the climactic fight) - was hiding Gollum and planning on taking her back to MIddle Earth, when Sabretooth came roaring up on his Harley (and I can just hear GM rolling his eyes, but Sabretooth *would* ride a Harley *g*) and so my guy shoved me and Gollum into a room so we'd be safe while he went out to fight him. Lovely, eh? I won't even get into the part where I had a sister who wasn't Marguerite who was a witch and who was going to ascend [ala the Mayor, I guess] and we lived in this fancy mansion and out in the backyard, there was a door in one of the hills that led to Hobbiton. We went through and Sam wanted to trade recipes with one of our party, except he couldn't read English and none of us could read Elvish. I suppose I just did get into it, huh? That was when I woke up. ::shakes head:: I need to get me a life. ~victoria ~victoria ~*~ 2002-01-23 - 1:02 p.m. Got an idea on the train this morning, while listening to Nightswimming. Which just happens to be my favorite REM song, even more so than At My Most Beautiful or Sweetness Follows or Perfect Circle or... yeah, I love REM. *g* Actually, I've had the idea for a while, but with Pete's push for the X/W mush that I owe him and my own stalling on any new CLex fic, I remembered that I'd wanted to write an L/R fic around Nightswimming, though I'd had good ideas for both X/W and CLex in relation to the song. For those of you now rolling your eyes at my embrace of songfic, either sod off and don't read, or go read my stuff and realize it's not your traditional songfic for the most part, as I rarely actually quote the lyrics to break up the fic, and instead somehow incorporate meaningful parts of them into the actual narrative and/or dialogue. But whatever. That's a discussion for another day. Anyhow, each of the stories I'd thought of has the same basic parameters - a lover/ex-lover comes upon his or her loved one swimming at night. Each story has a different ending, and concerns the couples at different points in their relationships - just starting, together happily, and broken up but still holding on. So I remembered that three-fandom thing I know some of the West Wing writers were involved in [though I don't know the actual parameters of it] and I thought, why the hell not? I mean, Pete wrote three Thunder Road stories as sort of a 360 degree look at Xander and the women in his life post-GD2, and this is all really Pete's fault, so I said to myself, Self, says I, write the three ficlets and tie them together under the Nightswimming rubric. You can be productive, *and* get Pete off your back at the same time, without sacrificing the song to any *one* couple. So voila! I'm working on it, and when I'm done, maybe I'll share with youse here before I post. Or maybe not. *g* ~victoria ~*~
