Spring Recs Update - Woo!

The Unfit for Society Recs LJ has been updated with 24 new recs in eight fandoms (technically - there are two crossovers) including Harry Potter, Good Omens, Sports Night and BtVS.

Direct link here.

I feel so accomplished.

Also, yet another ficlet:

for leadensky: Needs Must When the Devil Drives | Lucifer | Death. snowflake. irritated. 515 words. (spoilers through "The Divine Comedy.")

Look at me, posting here twice in one day. Heh.

'cause there's a man down there / might be your man, I don't know

whine whine mumble mumble

I do not understand how it's possible that two people who ordered toasted bagels after me in the deli both got their order before I got mine.

How does that work?

Happily, to make up for being slighted by my deli men, one of the people who cut me tried to walk up the down escalator.

Bwah.

Good times.

In fannish news, two more ficlets are up:

For penknife: Regret to Inform | HP | Dumbledore, a letter, regret. | 274 words.

and

For stellamaru: The Secret Sharer | HP | Neville, Sneakoscope, infatuation. | 705 words.

I also finished one last night that indulges my current fascination with Lucifer from the Lucifer comics (spinoff of Sandman and you should all go read it now and write me some bad wrong Lucifer/Michael-in-exile slash). Talk about writing a fic that will get no feedback. Sigh. And also that will probably be completely hated by the person who made the request. I kinda forgot who I was writing for with that one, so I will have to do her other request.

I'm also going to try to get the recs updated today, but we'll see how it goes. I've still got the killer headache from hell, and one of the lights above my desk is out, which doesn't help things, and I slept like utter ass last night.

project ficlet: phase 2

So, more ficlets for people. This time it was one character, one object, one emotion (though it isn't necessarily the one character who feels the one emotion. I feel this allows me more leeway, though apparently it was not expected.)

For Bonibaru: Fiat Lux | Good Omens | Crowley, chandelier, surprised | 331 words

for Maveness: Lies of Omission | Gilmore Girls | Emily, angry, poker | 288 words

for snacky: Bull's Eye | LotR | Eowyn, triumphant | 157 words

for hiddendaze and snacky: Lucky | HP | Charlie, desk, wonderment. Tonks, wand, desperate. | R | 798 words

for goss: Real Genius | Smallville | Lex. Rubik's cube. Smug. | 307 words.

for imacartwright: Revitalizing | XMM | Logan, hair conditioner, rapture. | R | 386 words.

for Nimori: What It's Like | HP | Sirius, quill, envy. | 192 words

for Celli: Nobody Likes a Sore Winner | Alias | Weiss, water balloon, worried. | 405 words

For voleuse: Hunger | The Matrix | Trinity. Candy bar. Hunger. | 170 words.

for fairy_tale_echo: Security Blanket | HP | Lily, blanket, conflicted | 763 words. my personal favorite of the bunch

for zeelee_penguin: Last of the Red Hot Lovers | XMM (post X2) | Mystique, romance novel, vulnerable. | 605 words.

for maeglinyedi: Fruit of the Vine | Good Omens | Crowley, Aziraphale, astonishment. | 280 words.

***

Considering I've never written Good Omens before, have only done Matrix and Gilmore Girls once (and one was a crossover), and only have the one Alias fic, I think I did pretty well.

Hope to get more done today. Or not. I'm in that kind of PMS where everything I write sucks (or I think it does) and I hate everything and want to completely gafiate.

Sigh.

spring is in the air

Spring!

In the air!

No socks!

On my feet!

Whee!

Yes, this makes me very happy.

(let's not discuss the time we went dancing in an ice storm and I didn't wear socks. I didn't *know* there was going to be an ice storm. It was... unpleasant, to say the least. Thank god for alcohol to make you believe you're warm.)

This winter has been been colder and drearier than any I can remember for a long while. I don't mean the snow, because we do get that every couple years. I mean the freaking bone-chilling cold where the temperatures didn't make it out of the single digits and 12° Fahrenheit was a high and I had to wrap my air conditioner in swaddling clothes to keep my apartment from becoming a frozen tundra.

But yesterday I walked over to 425 without a coat, and today I wore my leather jacket without a scarf, and a silk blouse beneath and wasn't freezing.

Woo! Taste of Spring.

You know March is gonna sock us with snow at some point, but I'm so enjoying this 60° weather while it lasts.

kiss me and I'll kiss you back

Five first kisses, written by me. I've noticed I don't write a lot of first kisses. At least, not ones I consider very memorable.

And most of the sex I write these days, while it may be the first time for the two people with each other, it's not usually their first time ever.

Actually, my preferred sex scenes would be reunion sex these days, post-Azkaban, lying low at Lupins or at Grimmauld Place sex.

I'd also like Sirius returns from the dead rarin' to go sex, but I haven't quite been able to manage that myself.

I'm very bad at denial of the literary sort.

Anyhow, feel free to go here and share some of your favorite first fictional kisses - hell your favorite fictional kisses first, last or some indeterminate number...

another shirt ruined

Hmmm... 6 days is the longest I've gone without updating here since I got it, excluding non-internet-having vacations.

I have fic for you. Breviary, which is the Book of Hours fic I talked ahout so much. Eight couples, eight stages of relationships, one day. Amazingly enough, the Percy/Penelope is getting the most response, which, well, knock me over with a feather. Who knew?

I can't pick a favorite - I like them all - though if pressed, I'd admit a soft spot for the Arthur/Molly. I just adore Arthur Weasley. My favorite lines are from the Remus and Snape sections (I like the business about Sirius's life being one long fight against fate, and Snape's realization that Muggle religion and Voldemort's quest for immortality spring from the same fear of death), but Arthur and Molly are just so sweet and parental. Sigh.

Plus, speaking of Weasleys I love, there's Bill/Remus taxiporn here: Love in the Traffic-Choked Streets. We can thank John Steinbeck for the title. And Bill for the Hotness...

(from art by Marta)

He looks a little young there, but man, I think I've developed a fetish for his hair. *snerk*

And he and Remus would make so much *sense* together. Post-Veil, of course. Though if Sirius comes back and wants to share, I would certainly have no problem with that. *eg*

Someone mentioned that Bill doesn't get written enough and he certainly doesn't get laid enough, and goddammit, it's the truth. I think the problem is, he's stuck in between, age-wise - too old in the narrative present to have much interest in the Trio et al., but still a few years too young to be a big part of anything set in MWPP-era.

However, that five or six year age gap is *nothing* if he's thirty and Remus is thirty-six post-OotP. That's a hell of a lot better than him being thirty and shacking up with eighteen year old Fleur.

So, there should be some good post-war Bill/Remus go to Egypt and fight crime Indiana Jones (or Ramses Emerson) style, don't you think?

I think.

Go, and write me some.

Ooh, they're playing The Boxer by Simon & Garfunkel. I adore this song.

thursday night recap. can you handle the excitement?

Okay. The plan for tonight was, highlight hair, finish book, get online, edit Breviary.

What actually happened was: get big copy job at 5pm, rush like crazy to finish it, go to reception for ES, don't get enough to eat but do end up getting stuck for the speeches. Come home. No Feria in the medicine cabinet. (How did *that* happen?) Nap, instead, because that one Cape Cod over a few crackers and carrot sticks made me mellow. Wake up, shower, put A Well-Respected Man up on the site (Snape/Lockhart. heh.). Write in diary.

Gee.

That's my life, right there.

Can you take the excitement?

The painting is "Boreas" by John William Waterhouse. Again, not a muse, but I like her. She suits the color scheme.

The quote is from Sir Philip Sidney.
